Victorian and Edwardian houses across Bournemouth, Poole and Southampton almost all have suspended timber ground floors over a ventilated void. Block up the airbricks, pile soil against the outside wall, or lay a solid floor in one room, and that void stops breathing.
Once it does, joist ends and bearers begin to decay quietly under a perfectly normal-looking floor. We open up, clear it out, repair the structure and get the airflow working again.

Builders’ debris, spoil and organic material removed so the void can ventilate and drain.

Repair the structure
Decayed joist ends and bearers replaced, sleeper walls repaired, hangers and DPC isolation installed.

Restore ventilation
Airbricks reopened, added or ducted through, with cross-flow across the full footprint.

Reinstate the floor
Boards relaid or renewed, levels corrected and finishes made good.
