The problem

Condensation forms when a surface falls below the dew point of the air touching it. Insulation raises that surface temperature, which is why targeted insulation is often a more permanent answer to a mouldy corner than any coating.

The catch is that insulation also makes a house tighter. Fitted without a matching ventilation strategy, it moves the moisture problem rather than solving it — which is exactly what we get called to correct.

How we handle it

From first reading to registered guarantee

The same five stages on every job, whether it is one wall or a whole property.

  1. 01

    Thermal assessment

Surface temperatures and cold bridges identified and compared with room dew point.

  2. 02

    Ventilation audit

Existing extract performance and background ventilation measured before anything is sealed up.

  3. 03

    Specify together

Insulation build-up and ventilation strategy designed as one package with condensation risk checked.

  4. 04

    Install

Loft, cavity, internal wall or reveal insulation fitted with vapour control and eaves ventilation maintained.

  5. 05

    Verify

Post-works readings to confirm surfaces are above dew point and extract rates meet specification.

What is included

Everything this specification can cover

Your quotation lists only what your property needs. Anything not required is simply not on it.

Insulated boarding being installed to a cold internal wall
  • Loft insulation top-up and eaves ventilation
  • Cavity wall insulation and defect inspection
  • Internal insulated boarding to solid walls
  • Window reveal and lintel cold-bridge insulation
  • Continuous mechanical extract and PIV systems
  • Post-installation dew-point verification
Questions

Insulation and Ventilation — answered

It can, where the cavity was unsuitable — narrow, debris-filled, or on a severely exposed elevation. We inspect with a borescope before recommending it, and we remove failed fill where it is causing bridging.

A typical insulated board build-up takes 50–90mm off the wall. On the one or two walls that actually need it, most people never notice.

It helps the room below but does nothing for cold external walls, and if it blocks the eaves it can cause condensation in the loft itself. Ventilation has to be kept clear.
