The problem

On the south coast, the elevation facing the prevailing south-westerly can take several times the rainfall of the sheltered side. Absorbent brick or soft stone on that face saturates repeatedly, and once it stops drying between events, damp shows inside.

A breathable water-repellent cream reduces capillary absorption dramatically while letting the wall release vapour. It is applied after the pointing and render are sound — never as a way of avoiding that work.

How we handle it

From first reading to registered guarantee

The same five stages on every job, whether it is one wall or a whole property.

  1. 01

    Exposure assessment

Elevation orientation, local exposure and substrate absorbency evaluated.

  2. 02

    Repair the fabric

Repointing, render and sill repairs completed first — protection is not a substitute.

  3. 03

    Clean the surface

Biocidal wash and removal of organic growth so the treatment can penetrate.

  4. 04

    Apply treatment

Breathable water-repellent cream applied to the manufacturer’s coverage rate and recorded.

  5. 05

    Verify inside

Internal readings monitored afterwards to confirm the elevation is drying.

Questions

Masonry Protection — answered

No, and the difference matters. Sealers form a film that blocks vapour and eventually cracks. The creams we use line the pores, repel liquid water and still allow the wall to breathe.

Typically twenty to thirty years on brick, depending on exposure. It is not a coating that peels.

It goes on white and dries clear with no sheen. Very dark or highly glazed brick can look marginally different when wet.
